Educate and prevent: Navigating workplace bullying and harassment.
Data shows that around one in four people have experienced bullying or have been made to feel left out in their place of work.
Ahead of the busy Christmas party season and in response to these statistics, December’s Primas HR Hub will focus on the critical theme of bullying and harassment in the workplace.
With the festive season bringing more social events and office parties, it’s crucial for employers and HR professionals to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and confidence needed to effectively deal with unacceptable behaviour, both inside and outside the workplace.
We’ll be providing an in depth overview of the law in this area while also exploring recent high profile cases involving companies such as McDonalds and the National Grid, as well as individuals who have been in the spotlight, like Russell Brand.
Our goal is to equip employers with the knowledge needed to address any issues of bullying or harassment promptly and effectively.

A ‘just in case’ toolkit to help prepare employers for challenging times in the workplace.
In business, no one likes to think too much about the bad times and having to make unpopular or tough decisions that might impact on people’s livelihoods. However, we believe it is far better to be well-prepared “just in case” the going gets tough, and hopefully, such preparation will never be needed to be put into practice.
In light of the prevailing economic climate and trends, and following feedback from business owners and HR professionals in our network, we have chosen “When the going gets tough…” as our next headline subject for the Primas HR Hub round table event.
Under this banner headline, we intend to offer insight and guidance into the options and procedures available to employers, in the event that tough decisions have to be made.
We will naturally cover workplace scenarios such as the need to consider redundancies, the implementation of changes to terms and conditions of employment and the right to lay-off. However, we will also endeavour to explore alternative, less obvious strategies that employers may look to, when the going gets tough. Needless to say, we sincerely hope that you will never be in a position to need to rely on such insight and guidance, however, better safe than sorry.
The core issues that we intend to cover will include:

For our first quarterly focus and session of The Primas HR Hub, we chose the broad subject of “health and wellbeing in the workplace”.
In 2022, the sickness absence rate was at the highest it has been for a decade. What’s more, in 2021, the UK lost around 149.3m working days a year due to sickness or injury; that’s around 4.6 days per worker.
By some margin, we receive more questions from our employer clients about issues relating to the health and wellbeing of their staff than anything else. We therefore thought that this was the natural best place for The Primas HR Hub to start.
Our first round table event welcomed HR professionals and business leaders to our city centre office in Manchester, where our expert team provided an overview of the law in relation to absence management, both long and short term. They also shared tips and advice on how businesses can introduce the strategies needed to respond to the ongoing challenges around employee absence.
The session equipped attendees with the knowledge required to proactively and effectively manage workplace absences and how to confidentiality handle sensitive or difficult scenarios.
Led by our Head of Employment Law David Walton and Employment Law Partner Danielle Ayres, the Primas HR Hub round tables are the perfect way to meet our legal experts, share your experiences of employment law challenges and learn from other industry professionals around the table over a free breakfast.

Meet Mr A.Bygot, an employer like no other.
To some, he’s “old-school”, to others, he’s a dinosaur. But one thing is clear: Mr A.Bygot is not the kind of employer anybody wants to work for in 2023.
In a Primas Law exclusive, our legal team have uncovered the scandalous tales of Mr A.Bygot – an employer who has absolutely no regard for his employee’s wellbeing or the employment laws he should be observing.
Whilst details of the cases against Mr A.Bygot are still unfolding, the Primas Employment Law Team hope to raise more awareness as to what employers should (and in many cases, definitely should not) do when it comes to dealing with everyday challenges which you may face in the workplace.
Many questions are yet to be answered. Who is Mr A.Bygot? Where did he get so much tweed? How does he manage to run a business in violation of so many employment laws? But rest assured, the Primas Employment Law Team are on the case.
