Money Laundering Solicitors

Specialist business crime solicitors to assist with money laundering investigations

Primas Law has experience in representing businesses and individuals facing issues or investigations brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act. This is an ever evolving and highly complex area of law and it is essential to seek advice as early as possible.

We live and work in a world which is highly focused on preventing financial crime and money laundering. The burden on businesses and individuals to help prevent money laundering has never been greater – particularly for those operating in the regulated sectors.

However, the non-regulated sectors can also be seriously affected by the AML regime and can be caught by issues such as trademark infringements and selling counterfeit goods.

Failing to comply with the regulations if they apply to you or your business is in itself a criminal offence and so it is imperative to ensure that you are UpToDate and take the right advice at the right time.

Contact our Head of Business Crime and Regulation, John Hartley, today to discuss your matter.

What is money laundering?

Money laundering is the process of disguising illegally obtained money to make it appear legitimate. Criminals use this practice to integrate “dirty money” into the legal financial system, often through a series of transactions that conceal its true source.

The process typically involves three stages:

  1. Placement: Introducing the illicit funds into the financial system, often through cash deposits, purchases, or investments.
  2. Layering: Conducting multiple transactions to obscure the origin of the money, such as transferring funds between accounts or converting them into different currencies.
  3. Integration: Reintroducing the “cleaned” money into the economy as legitimate assets, such as property investments, businesses, or luxury goods.

Money laundering poses significant risks to businesses and financial institutions, which may unknowingly facilitate these activities. Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations aim to prevent this by requiring organisations to implement due diligence measures, monitor transactions, and report suspicious activity.

Understanding and complying with AML laws is crucial for businesses to protect themselves from legal, financial, and reputational risks. For tailored advice and support, our expert legal team is here to help.
