National Careers Week 2020; why I’m pledging to support other entrepreneurs on their journey

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help of some fantastic mentors. So far, their guidance and support throughout my career has been invaluable and played a massive part of my journey. Their help is one of the main reasons I now want to give back in the same way.

At the start of this year, I joined the NatWest Accelerator Scheme; to give guidance, advice and share the benefit of my experience with other entrepreneurs.

As well as being an Associate at Primas, I own a Pan-Asian restaurant and cocktail bar in Liverpool city centre, called Chamber 36. My experience in opening and running my own business, as well as making my way in the legal world, means that I have met plenty of different mentors along the way. From my seniors in the legal profession to friends and family members running their own businesses, learning from others and taking their advice has been pivotal in me making a success of my career.

My entrepreneurial experience has helped me as a legal professional, and my focus is now firmly placed on corporate and commercial law, working closely with entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses to provide them with the best legal advice possible to help their business be a success.

As an entrepreneur myself, I understand the importance of that instinctive gut-feeling and why it is such a vital part of launching your own business, but the lawyer in me can also identify the importance of planning! As such, I have a well-rounded outlook when it comes to advising and helping entrepreneurs. It is because of this unique position that I wanted to get involved in a mentoring scheme.

The NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator supports entrepreneurs, giving them the best possible coaching to help their businesses grow and scale. The scheme gives businesses an all-important boost, helping them to progress to the next level, all while receiving the best business and legal advice to ensure that their plans are sustainable and built to last.

Through the mentoring scheme, I want to help entrepreneurs by giving them the most relevant legal advice needed to help them succeed without hitting any bumps in the road. I’m also excited about the opportunity of sharing the benefit of my own experience. I’m looking forward to helping foster and bring new and exciting ideas to fruition; working with like-minded people on growing their businesses.

This National Careers Week, I would encourage any entrepreneurs out there who are unsure about how to take the next step in their business to seek advice. Take advantage of learning from those who have taken the leap before you and ask as many people questions as possible – I certainly learnt that there’s no such thing as a ‘stupid’ question.

I’m really looking forward to working with the mentees involved in the NatWest Accelerator Scheme and helping them to get their businesses off the ground. My email inbox is always open for anyone looking for advice, so please do get in touch via kin.liu@primaslaw.co.uk
